Report of Bude & District U3A AGM October 2011

More than sixty members attended the October AGM of the Bude & District U3A. The Chair, Hilary Workman, welcomed everyone before reading her report, expressing her delight that so many were present at an AGM. She continued, saying that the Bude group was, indeed, growing as there were 164 paid up members. She was pleased to say also that the number of activity groups had increased to twenty seven, therefore members had a greater range of interesting subjects from which to choose in order to pursue their many varied interests. Hilary thanked all those members of the committee and others for the work that had been done willingly and voluntarily that contributed to the success of the Bude U3A. She assured them it was very much appreciated. Hilary also asked permission from the floor for the committee to raise the annual subscription again in 2012, but ONLY if they deemed it necessary because of the economic climate. This was passed.

The chair and members of the committee were re-elected en bloc except for one who was standing down due to other commitments. After the official business and ‘over a cup of tea’, John Dabbs showed photographs taken of some of the group activities, which caused some amusement!

The meeting finished with a short entertainment called “Bits and Pieces” provided by members of the Drama, Poetry and Creative Writing groups and arranged by Lynda Savory. Wendy Jones read Roald’s version of Goldilocks and the three bears; Jane Maclure read a piece about the formidable American ladies taking on the war in Afghanistan; Lynda read of a family all trying to get in the “The Will” of a relative; Eve Tilsley then read her own amusing verse about an old lady trying to look beautiful; Lucille Opie read of a childhood memory and Jane Maclure read Sheena Pugh’s lovely poem “Sometimes”.

A short sketch entitled “Car Crash” ended the years AGM.

We would remind people that we have a website where the activity group subjects, photos, programme, and reports can be seen and anyone who is interested in joining would be warmly welcomed. www.bude&district.co.uk
